10.-14. July, Arena Filmtheater
The 13th edition of the Czech film week in Munich presents recent Czech feature films as well as documentaries and short movies. Again we invite you to a Czech film party and a film brunch in relaxed atmosphere.
Airplanes don’t feature a 13th row of seats, some hotels offer no room #13. This number is known for bringing bad luck. However, we are proud to present the 13th edition of the Czech film week in Munich! The this year’s collection of contemporary czech film productions includes interesting works that otherwise are not screened in cinemas.
D. Ondříček’s newest film „In the Shawow“ will make the opening, a hard-boiled detective story taking place in the 50’s, the years of the hardest law enforcements in former ČSSR. A small crime leads to an wide-spread criminal network, whose roots origines even in times of war. The secret police pulls the strings, however it ends not how one might think. A film about truth and the fight for it.
All other features films rather focuse on young protagonists, who are still looking for their place in life. Their environment, however, is not making it so easy. „Flower blossoms“ by Z. Jiráský shows the strong will of people trying to escape from a small town. But how can one create his own destiny without risking all intimate relationships? Similarly depressing conditions are shown in the amazing debut by M. Fornay „My dog Killer“ – Slovakian borderland, a degrading family, racial issues. The 18 year old Marek tries to get a grip on his future – ending with disastrous consequences. Whereas in socialism youth was strongly restricted and controlled… how was is still possible to assert one’s position as punk? The directing debut of cinematographer R. Řeřicha „Don’t Stop“ is dealing with this question.
Again we are showing two documentaries: „Life in grave“ by D. Vondráček tells an emotional stroy about two homeless people living on a cemetery. The documentary „Karel Reisz“ depicts the life and work of one of the most important Czech directors. The movies emphasizes the long tradition of the Czech film scene.
The program completes the short film evening Fein.Kost with German and Czech short films as well as a film brunch with a discussion about the current situation of Czech film industry. On Saturday we wanna celebrate together – this year with a concert by the great electro folk band FIORDMOSS and our residence DJ Filip Černý. Let’s have a Czech film dance!!
We are looking forward to a splendid lucky 13th film week!
